Tak jak w latach poprzednich r\u00f3wnie\u017c i w tym roku odwiedzili\u015bmy Polsk\u0119. Ten wyjazd r\u00f3\u017cni\u0142 si\u0119 jednak nieco od pozosta\u0142ych, gdy\u017c poza zwyczajow\u0105 wizyt\u0105 u dziadk\u00f3w sp\u0119dzili\u015bmy pe\u0142en przyg\u00f3d tydzie\u0144 w polskich Tatrach. Byli z nami Basia, Piotrek, Ala, Micha\u0142ek, Ania (kuzynka Basi) oraz pradziadek Longin. S\u0142owem, poka\u017ana grupa o zr\u00f3\u017cnicowanym wieku i aspiracjach. Co prawda nie uda\u0142o nam si\u0119 zdoby\u0107 Rys ani nawet Giewontu, ale wydaje mi si\u0119, \u017ce i tak dokonali\u015bmy bohaterskiego wyczynu wsp\u00f3lnym wypadem w dolin\u0119 Ko\u015bcielisk\u0105, bior\u0105c pod uwag\u0119 rozpi\u0119to\u015b\u0107 wieku (od 3 miesi\u0119cy do 89 lat) oraz nasze skromne do\u015bwiadczenie we wspinaczce wysokog\u00f3rskiej z w\u00f3zkami spacerowymi. Pomimo oczywistych ogranicze\u0144, mieli\u015bmy okazj\u0119 podziwia\u0107 pi\u0119kne widoki na otaczaj\u0105ce nas tatrza\u0144skie szczyty oraz delektowa\u0107 si\u0119 szumem g\u00f3rskich strumyk\u00f3w, jednocze\u015bnie pr\u00f3buj\u0105c usilnie wyt\u0142umaczy\u0107 m\u0142odszemu pokoleniu (z marnym skutkiem), \u017ce k\u0105piel w rw\u0105cym lodowatym pokotu nie jest przewidziana w programie wycieczki. Posiadanie w\u00f3zk\u00f3w od czasu do czasu okazywa\u0142o si\u0119 zbawienne, gdy\u017c nasze spacer\u00f3wki niczym ma\u0142e buldo\u017cery pomaga\u0142y nam torowa\u0107 drog\u0119 poprzez g\u0119sty t\u0142um turyst\u00f3w na Krup\u00f3wkach i Guba\u0142\u00f3wce. Podsumowuj\u0105c, wyjazd by\u0142 niezmiernie ciekawy, aczkolwiek trzeba przyzna\u0107, \u017ce w sezonie urlopowym Tatry nie s\u0105 oaz\u0105 ciszy i spokoju.
\nReszt\u0119 czasu sp\u0119dzili\u015bmy u dziadk\u00f3w w \u0141odzi pr\u00f3buj\u0105c w miar\u0119 mo\u017cliwo\u015bci r\u00f3wnie\u017c od\u015bwie\u017cy\u0107 nasze stare znajomo\u015bci. Smutnym niew\u0105tpliwie elementem wizyty by\u0142a choroba dziadka. Ze wzgl\u0119du na niedoleczone zapalenie p\u0142uc, kt\u00f3rego najprawdopodobniej nabawi\u0142 si\u0119 jeszcze zim\u0105 na nartach, musia\u0142 p\u00f3j\u015b\u0107 do szpitala na kilka tygodni. Widywali\u015bmy go jedynie kr\u00f3tko w przyszpitalnym ogr\u00f3dku. W domu by\u0142o dziwnie pusto, a Kuba i Stefan pytali cz\u0119sto gdzie jest dziadek. Na szcz\u0119\u015bcie ju\u017c wyszed\u0142 i czuje si\u0119 znacznie lepiej. Mamy nadziej\u0119, \u017ce nast\u0119pnym razem zobaczymy go w pe\u0142nej kondycji.

As is our custom we had summer vacation in Poland. However, this trip was quite different from the previous ones. In addition to the visit at the grandparents’ place, we spent a week in the Polish Tatras, the highest mountain range in the country. We went there with Basia, Piotrek, Ala, Micha\u0142ek, Ania (Basia’s cousin) and great grandpa Longin. It was an interestingly diverse mix of people in terms of age and life aspirations. Although, we never managed to get to the top of the highest peak Rysy (2499m), a walk along Ko\u015bcieliska Valley, I believe, was a truly heroic achievement taking into account the age spread (from 3 months to 89 years!) and our general lack of experience in rock climbing with buggies and breast feeding babies. We could admire wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and absorb the beauty of the running streams, at the same time trying to convince the kids (with not much success) that jumping into the ice freezing water was not included in the trip program and could have unpleasant consequences. The buggies, although cumbersome to push on rocky paths, came in handy from time to time. They served well as little bulldozers helping us to wade through overcrowded places such as Krup\u00f3wki (main street in Zakopane<\/a>) and Guba\u0142\u00f3wka Hill<\/a>. In summary, the trip was very interesting. However, it goes without saying that in the middle of the holiday season the Tatras are not exactly an oasis of peace.
\nThe rest of the time we spent with the grandparents in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a, also trying to meet up with some of our old friends. A sad element to our visit was grandpa’s illness. Due to a lung infection, which he probably caught during his last skiing trip to France, he had to stay in hospital for a few weeks. We could only visit him briefly in a small hospital garden. The flat without him felt empty. Kuba and Stefan were often asking about ‘dziadek’. Fortunately, he is now back home and is feeling much better. Let’s hope next time we can see him in full strength.
