Anyone who visits this site with some regularity will notice that our holiday destination in the past few years has been fairly constant. No surprise then that you will see yet another batch of photos from \u0141\u00f3d\u017a and its surroundings. Since the zloty has become much stronger on the monetary market the prices in Poland are no longer attractive for the decadent Westerners like ourselves, nor are the overcrowded holiday resorts and bumpy roads. The chief remaining reason for us to visit Poland is to meet our family and friends, and experience the unique character of the people, the unmatched hospitality and the frank directness which seem an integral part of the ‘Slavonic soul’ and is still largely unaffected by the impersonal culture of political correctness.
\nOn a less philosophical note, there are also many interesting developments to be admired in our ‘beloved grey’ (as Mary calls my home town \u0141\u00f3d\u017a). Certainly worth a visit or two is the new shopping, art and recreational centre Manufaktura<\/a> built a few years ago within the architectural environment of an old XIX century textile factory. There is also a huge aqua park called Fala<\/a> (Eng.<\/em> ‘wave’) which actually does have waves and is one of the biggest projects of this type in Poland. There are also existing attractions such as Piotrkowska Street<\/a>, the local ZOO and many more. All of this together with a number of exciting trips to the neighbouring countryside kept us busy and entertained for almost four weeks. The weather was also pleasing with occasional thunderstorms which ‘electrified’ our spirits every now and then. On one occasion when we were driving home with three boys in the back of the car we even felt a bit too much of this ‘electric thrill’ as we saw how the roads started suddenly disappearing under the water surface and some cars were getting stalled. Fortunately, we managed to avoid full immersion.

\nPoza tym w naszej ‘kochanej szarej’ (jak to Mary zwykle nazywa moje miasto rodzinne) jest naprawd\u0119 sporo nowych (czy te\u017c odnowionych) miejsc, kt\u00f3re warto odwiedzi\u0107, jak chocia\u017cby centrum handlowo-kulturalno-rozrywkowe Manufaktura<\/a>, czy te\u017c nowoczesne k\u0105pielisko Fala<\/a>, nie wspominaj\u0105c ju\u017c o niepowtarzalnej ulicy Piotrkowskiej, ogrodzie zoologicznym i wielu innych pomniejszych atrakcjach. Wszystko to po\u0142\u0105czone z cz\u0119stymi wycieczkami za miasto spowodowa\u0142o, \u017ce cztery tygodnie up\u0142yn\u0119\u0142y nam du\u017co szybciej ni\u017c by\u015bmy tego chcieli. Poza sporadycznymi burzami i kilkoma oberwaniami chmur, kt\u00f3re dostarcza\u0142y nam (a szczeg\u00f3lnie ch\u0142opakom) dodatkowego dreszczyku emocji, pogoda r\u00f3wnie\u017c by\u0142a bardzo przyjemna. Jednego wieczoru, kiedy jechali\u015bmy do domu samochodem z trzema rozbawionymi malcami na tylnym siedzeniu, tego dreszczyku emocji by\u0142o o ciut za du\u017co gdy\u017c drogi w zastraszaj\u0105cym tempie zacz\u0119\u0142y nikn\u0105\u0107 pod powierzchni\u0105 wody, a co po niekt\u00f3re samochody stawa\u0107 przy radze z zalanym silnikiem. Na szcz\u0119\u015bcie jako\u015b uda\u0142o nam si\u0119 unikn\u0105\u0107 pe\u0142nego zanurzenia.
